D.C. police have seized about 85 pounds of marijuana and nearly $40,000 in cash during raids this month targeting an accused drug dealer in Northwest Washington.
The seizure was disclosed in court papers filed Wednesday by federal prosecutors seeking the forfeiture of the cash and the man's house in the 5500 block of 14th Street NW.
D.C. police arrested the man, Winston Williams, 49, after seizing 10 pounds of marijuana and $37,825 in the house Aug. 5, prosecutors wrote in court papers.
A few days later, prosecutors said, D.C. police searched storage units in the 6400 block of 16th Street that they say belong to Williams. They found 75 pounds of marijuana in buckets and barrels in the units, prosecutors said.
Williams, a citizen of Grenada, is a permanent U.S. resident and is married with three children, court papers show. He has lived in the District for 23 years, the court papers say.
Prosecutors also allege that he has not paid income taxes since 2003, court records show.
Williams, who has been held without bond since his arrest, was indicted Aug. 11 by a federal grand jury on charges of unlawfully possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it. He has no criminal record, according to court records filed in the case.
The D.C. government has assessed the value of William's home at more than $740,000, prosecutors wrote in court papers.
