The Ministry of National Security is moving to stamp out the illegal practice of persons demanding payment to fast track post mortems which are required in police investigations.

The Ministry has issued a public advisory which stated that there is no charge for post mortems in cases involving sudden death, murders and accidents.
It warned that the practice is illegal.

The Ministry said persons who are approached and asked to make payment to speed up a post mortem or a report should contact the Superintendent in charge of the Police Division or call 1-800-CORRUPT.

It added that the Government has contracted funeral homes island wide and the police will provide a list where required.
