During their semifinal match at the U.S. Open 2009, a conduct violation from Serena Williams gave Kim Clijsters a 6-4, 7-5 victory over the defending champion. The line judge called a foot fault on Williams’ serve on the second set of the match. She was so upset with the call that she yelled and berated the official.
The chair umpire then asked the line judge on what Williams said. After a brief meeting with the rules officials, they decided that a conduct violation was made by Williams. A point penalty won the match for Clijsters.
