He shot himself in the presence of his wife

News out of Trinidad

A security guard shot himself in the head on Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, yesterday in the presence of his wife.

Police said Anand Rampersad, 48, of Cashew Gardens, Longdenville, a former police officer, arrived at work at Players' Casino around midday.

About two hours later his wife arrived at his job site and called him outside, police said.

The two, eyewitnesses said were seated in a car talking, when suddenly a gunshot rang out. The woman was not hurt, police said.

Rampersad, who was employed with Thor Security Service, shot himself in the right side of the head, police said. He died in the passenger seat of the car.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident Belmont police are investigating the apparent suicide of a 28-year-old security officer who was found hanging at his home around 11 a.m. in Upper Albert Lane, Belmont.

Police believe that Corey Gordon killed himself because of a relationship that had gone sour between himself and a woman.
