BOSTON (AP) — A man stabbed a doctor while being treated at a psychiatric office at a Boston medical building on Tuesday and was then fatally shot by an off-duty security guard who saw the attack, the police said.
The attack took place in the afternoon at a high-rise affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital.
The doctor, a woman whose name was not released, was in stable condition. The police identified the man who was killed as Jay Carciero, 37, of Reading, Mass..
The security guard was off duty and just happened to be at the scene, said Bonnie Michelman, the hospital’s security director.
The police temporarily locked down the building, and nearby streets were closed for about an hour.
The police commissioner, Ed Davis, said no one else had been injured.
