DR man killed in accident

A 26-YEAR-OLD Dominican Republic national met his death in a gruesome way when his body was dismembered upon impact with a vehicle while he was attempting to cross the Uriah Butler Highway (UBH) during the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to a police report, at about 1.55 am a vehicle was proceeding north along the UBH in the vicinity of Mustapha Engineering when its driver noticed someone walking across the highway.

Police said the driver attempted to swerve out of the man’s way but apparently, police said, the person in an attempt to also avoid the car, instead panicked and turned towards the car’s direction and was hit by the car.

The impact sent the man several feet in the air dismembering his body.

Police later identified the man as 26-year-old Frank De La Rosa of the Dominican Republic. They are yet to identify a local residence.
A party of police officers from the Chaguanas Police Station including Sgt Subero, Nawal and PCs Jaikaran and John visited the scene.

The District Medical Officer Dr Ray Chowdhari also visited the scene and ordered the body’s removal to the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
