Female jurors remain behind bars

In news out of Jamaica..  Two female jurors charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice were Monday further remanded when they faced the May Pen Resident Magistrate's court in Clarendon.

Twenty-five year-old model Verona Samuels and 43-year-old domestic helper Natalie Sill, who both face contempt of court charges, appeared before Justice Bryan Sykes in the Circuit Court.

Justice Sykes Monday referred the case involving the two women to the Number Two Resident Magistrate's Court, where RM Desiree Alleyne presided over the hearing.

In that court, the allegations in the case were outlined, following which attorney for Ms Sill, Hopeton Clarke, applied for bail for his client.

In his bail application, Mr. Clarke apologised to the court for his client's action and argued that both women have been punished enough since the matter came to light.

Mr. Clarke also complained about the poor condition of the lock-up at the Four Paths police station where his client has been held since the arrest of both women last week.
However the Resident Magistrate opted not to grant Ms Sill bail, arguing that she needed an accurate address for the accused.
