New Hampshire authorities have announced a fifth arrest in the Oct. 4 machete slaying of a 42-year-old woman in a house on a quiet road in the small town of Mont Vernon.
Autumn Savoy, 20, faces two counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution and one count of conspiracy to commit hindering apprehension or prosecution, authorities said.
Savoy is to be arraigned today in district court in Milford, N.H., the state attorney general, state police chief, and Mont Vernon police chief said in a statement.
Assistant Attorney General Lucy Carrillo had no comment on the allegations against Savoy or his relationship to those already charged.
Four teenagers allegedly stormed the home with murder on their minds and hacked 42-year-old Kim Cates to death with a machete and severely wounded her 11-year-old daughter, Jamie.
"They picked the house at random because it was in an isolated area," prosecutor N. William Delker said during the teens' arraignments last month in Milford District Court. "Before they entered the home, all four defendants were aware that the intent was to kill the occupants."
Steven Spader, 17, and Christopher Gribble, 19, were charged with first-degree murder, and William Marks, 18, and Quinn Glover, 17, face charges of burglary, robbery, and conspiracy.
The Union Leader of Manchester reported that Savoy was a friend of Spader's.
A young woman who answered the phone at the Savoy home in Hollis, N.H., said, "No comment from anybody of this family. Thank you. Bye," and then hung up.
