A mother and her son died yesterday morning, after the car in which they were travelling slammed into a culvert near their home.
Sharda Harridass, 33, was thrown from the vehicle, which overturned several times. She died at the scene.
Her son, Nicholas Collin Dean, 11, was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
The driver of the rented Toyota Fielder car, Rudy Pereira, suffered minor injuries.
The accident occurred along the Santa Flora Main Road around 2 a.m.
Pereira, of Rancho Quemado, and Harridass were involved in a relationship, relatives said.
The mother and son lived at Ramdass Trace, Santa Flora.
’Sharda and her son went everywhere together. They were inseparable. She never wanted to leave him with anyone. They came to live with us six years ago after she and the boy’s father split,’ her brother, Daveanand Harridass, said.
Harridass said he last saw the mother and son walking towards the main road around 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday.
’Her boyfriend was not allowed to come by us. So he pick them up on the main road and they went out. He said they went to buy fish and were coming home when the accident happened.’
