ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Grenada police say they have uncovered a prostitution ring being carried by an inmate at the Richmond Hill Prison.
Police Commissioner James Clarkson said the prostitution ring is the brainchild of Jason Phillip, 25, who is serving a three year jail term at the island’s lone prison facility.
According to the police, Phillip, who uses the alias “Jexie Gibbs”, used outside connections, including a close relative, to advertise his escort service in a local newspaper, and recruit and manage over 20 young ladies between the ages of 17 and 20.
“Jason Phillip is a nobody that wants to be a somebody and using a phony accent, and all these girls went for a phony accent thinking that Jason was a foreigner,” Commissioner Clarkson said,
“None of the people involved in this escort service outside know who he is .They work on a cell phone …so we were able to put this thing together and people have to be very careful “.
The issue of an escort service has been a hotly debated topic in recent weeks following the newspaper advertisement prompting opposition Senator Devon Rachae to call for an investigation.
Police say they have also confiscated Phillip’s diary.
Police have also identified Phillip as being the head of a local gang calling itself “The Bloods”.
He was arrested in St. Vincent last year and sent back to Grenada.
Police said that he had travelled to neighbouring St. Vincent to engage in criminal activity in order to pay a significant amount of money owed to the court after he was convicted on several charges.
What is the crime? Was anyone convicted?
