HAVANA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- About 200 people were detained in a raid against drug traffickers in the Dominican Republic, the authorities announced on Monday.
The Dominican Republic's chief of the National Police and Drug Control (DNCD), General Rolando Rosado, said in a statement that many known and new drug dealers were put out of action after the operation, which is one of the most forceful, according to information reaching here from Santo Domingo.
The operation was carried out on Sunday by the DNCD and the police across the country, backed up by a helicopter and boats along the banks of the Ozama River.
The police also seized hallucinogen, money, motorbikes and weapons in the raid and dismantled several outlets of drugs, Rosado said.
The raid was carried out just 24 hours after a similar operation, in which 149 people were detained for distributing marijuana, crack and cocaine.
