Five men beat, stab guard in city grocery

Oba hospitalised DRAMA unfolded in downtown Port of Spain as five men attacked a security guard, hitting him first with a concrete brick, then with their fists, before repeatedly stabbing him about the body in a supermarket.

The victim, identified as Oba Wynn, was listed in a critical condition at the Port of Spain General Hospital last night. Wynn worked at Boss Burger outlet located along Independence Square.

According to eyewitnesses, around 1.30 and 1.45 p.m. five men began chasing Wynn through the eastern end of the Brian Lara Promenade between the Lucky Bakery and the Back to Basics Supermarket, sending people scampering for safety. Wynn was able to dodge the men for a short while but caught up with him and began beating him in front the supermarket, located near the corner of George Street and Independence Square causing a crowd of curious onlookers to gather at the scene.

One of the men slammed a concrete brick to the back of Wynn’s head, the witness said.

Wynn broke free and briefly and ran into the supermarket. He was pursued by his attackers who beat him again.

During the attack one of the men whipped out a knife and stabbed Wynn a number of times to his back, abdomen, hand and neck, police said.
