High Court blocks British Airways strike

The union has foreshadowed more industrial action

The High Court in London has granted an injunction against striking British Airways (BA) staff, preventing their 12-day strike from going ahead next week.

But the United union has threatened to re-ballot its members to approve more industrial action.

The judge agreed the ballot of the cabin crew was invalid because it included members who had already accepted redundancies.

The union described the decision as a disgraceful day for democracy and said if the dispute over staffing and conditions was not resolved, a fresh ballot of members would be called.

However because of the time needed to organise another vote, any future strike will happen until next year.

The decision comes as a huge relief for up to 1 million BA passengers who faced a grim Christmas had the strike gone ahead.
