IDB BANK TO FUND BARBADOS PROJECTS

Barbados will receive US$400 million to support projects in coastal regions and water works and to boost education and energy.

Prime Minister David Thompson said the funds are a loan from the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) to improve integral management of strategic coastal resources to protect the environment and prevent damages from natural disasters.

He said the financing will also upgrade the water system to offer a better quality service to its more than 280,000 inhabitants.

“It will also help to explore alternative sources of energy and implementation of efficiency programmes in the public and private sectors.

It will also help to improve teaching quality in primary and secondary education in the country”, he said.
