HAMILTON, Bermuda, December 30, 2009 - Smoke coming from the cockpit of a JetBlue Airways plane yesterday forced the pilot to make an emergency landing at the L F Wade International Airport in Bermuda yesterday evening.
Fortunately, the plane landed safely and initial reports indicated no one was injured.
The plane was flying from Aruba to Boston, Massachusetts when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit as it was about 100 nautical miles (115 miles) south of Bermuda.
"Smoke was coming from the flight controls and the pilot had contacted the tower to say he was able to turn off the controls that were smoking but couldn't turn off the alarms," Lieutenant Dana Lovell of the Bermuda Fire Service said.
The plane landed about 30 minutes after indicating the emergency.
Nine fire trucks and one ambulance were on hand at the airport.
