Authorities believe a medical condition caused the death of a northern Indiana police officer who was found dead inside his squad car.
Elkhart police say an officer who was relieving 43-year-old Cpl. Michael Swygart found him outside Elkhart General Hospital late Tuesday. Police believe he was completing reports on his in-car computer after accompanying a person to the hospital for treatment.
County Coroner John White says an autopsy determined Swygart died of a chronic medical condition, although the specific cause won't be released until tissue tests have been completed.
Swygart was a 20-year veteran of the city's police force.
