THE Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is to receive in excess of $40 000 from the Anglican Diocese of Barbados to build a new Discharge Lounge.
The new facility will, on the one hand, assist in expediting the process of patients' release from the hospital in comfort, and on the other, make much-needed beds available while those due for discharge are having their documents processed.
Chairman of the board of the QEH Rev. Guy Hewitt last week disclosed the plans following a Christmas service held at the hospital's chapel.
"Unlike what happens in a hotel, there is no discharge time or discharge facility at the hospital for those patients who are to go home. They basically have to wait until all the paperwork gets done before someone leaves the bed.
The contribution by the Anglican Church, he said, pointed to the important role civil society has in improving the facilities at the national health care institution.
