Dominica swears in new Cabinet after elections

Skerrit The Caribbean island of Dominica has a new Cabinet following the ruling party's decisive parliamentary election win last month.

The Dominica Labor Party won 18 of 21 seats Dec. 18, giving Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit a second five-year term.

On Monday, 19 Cabinet members were sworn in during a ceremony at Windsor Park Stadium in the capital of Roseau.

Skerrit said in a speech that his government is "poised at the beginning of a new decade to take the country to the next level."

Opposition leaders are boycotting the new Parliament, alleging election fraud and other irregularities.

But observers from the Organization of American States and Caricom say the vote was free and fair.
