The Government and Opposition in Grenada have clashed over renewed decisions by the government to pursue oil and gas explorations in its waters.
Grenada has just completed the second round of maritime boundary talks with Trinidad and Tobago and Foreign Affairs Minister, Peter
David says the two are now close to reaching an agreement.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon Minister David said he is satisfied that much progress has been made.
He said however that the country needs ton exercise patience if it is to realize the best outcome of these talks.
"This boundary limitation talks are extremely critical. We all need to know where Trinidad begins and Grenada ends to pursue our policy of exploration and subsequent exploitation of the resources that we believe lie at the bottom of the ocean in our territorial waters," Mr. David said.
But Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Mitchell says there will be no end to the limitation talks until a case in the New York courts brought by oil speculator Jack Grindberg has been heard and a final judgement handed down.
Oil speculator Jack Grindberg and his corporation filed a civil case against former Energy Minister Gregory Bowen in a New York court for US$500 million.
Mr. Grindberg claims that Greneda reneged on an agreement signed in 1996 to allow it to pursue oil exploration in its waters.
