ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Supervisor of Elections Judy Benoit has submitted recommendations to the Office of the Attorney General for amendments to the Elections Legislation to push back enumeration exercises that are due in Grenada this year.
Benoit said that she was prompted to call for the amendments due to the inability of the Parliamentary Elections Office to acquire the relevant new equipment to convert the Election List into digital format.
“The new system will be in digital format and we are yet to receive the new equipment; it means that if we are to have this done this year we will have to use the old format and even if we decide to use the old format we will have difficulty sourcing (the) equipment because the company which usually produce them has also gone digital,” Benoit explained.
Grenada’s Election Law provides for 1994 to be the base year for an enumeration which is conducted every five years.
During an enumeration period, voters are registered and a new list is created to ensure that persons who no longer reside in Grenada or are dead are removed from the list.
