DETECTIVES yesterday charged a woman with the attempted murder of Stephen Timms, the former Labour minister.
The suspect was named by police as Roshonara Choudhary, 21, of east London. She has also been charged with two counts of possessing an offensive weapon. Choudhary will appear at Stratford magistrates’ court tomorrow.
The stabbing took place as Timms was holding a routine surgery for his East Ham constituents at a community centre in Beckton, east London, on Friday.
The MP, 54, was taken to hospital where he had an operation to repair the stab wounds.
CCTV footage seized by police apparently shows the moment Timms collapsed in shock after being stabbed twice by a woman “dressed in black”.
The film shows the well-liked MP surrounded by more than 15 aides and constituents as he looks down at two wounds in his abdomen.
