Implementing the EPA

European Union and Cariforum officials have been meeting to facilitate implementation of the economic partnership agreement (EPA) which regional states signed with the EU in October of 2008.

The EU and Caricom states along with the Dominican Republic held the inaugural meeting of their Joint Council in Madrid on Monday.

A release from the group says European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht met his Caribbean counterparts and took steps to make the institutions of the EPA fully operational.

They also welcomed Haiti's signature to the pact that provides for the gradual liberalistaion of trade in goods, services and investment between the Caribbean nations involved and the EU.
