The Vatican's foreign minister is heading for Cuba next month.

The pope's envoy is heading to Cuba next month

A spokesman for Havana's Conference of Bishops says Roman Catholic ArchBishop Dominique Mamberti will lead discussions on the island's economic challenges and the effects of emigration and the families torn apart by it.

The spokesman said church leaders would focus on "the necessity for dialogue and reconciliation among Cubans" in their discussions during Catholic Social Week from 12-20 June.

Archbishop Mamberti will be the first top Vatican official to visit Cuba since Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State to Pope Benedict XVI, visited the island in February 2008
