Ex TCI premier loses bid to lead party again

image Former Premier Michael Misick fails in an attempt to regain the leadership of the Progressive National Party (PNP).

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos, Monday August 9, 2010 – The Progressive National Party (PNP) in the Turks and Caicos has a new head.

Attorney and former Speaker of House Clayton Greene won the PNP leadership race, defeating three other candidates, including former premier Michael Misick, at the PNP’s national congress over the weekend.

The other two contenders were Queen’s Counsel Carlos Simons and Digicel boss Jay Saunders. The winner was decided by the simple majority.

Saunders was the first to be eliminated after the first round of voting, receiving the fewest votes.

According to the TCI Journal, during the second round Misick received 30 votes, Simons 30, and Greene got 31. A re-run of that round saw Misick being knocked out after getting just 29 compared to Greene’s 32 and Simons’ 30. The final round of voting saw Greene getting 57 votes to Simons’ 33.
