9-Year-Old Girl Stabbed by Her Mother

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS — A 9-year-old girl was clinging to life after her mother stabbed her in the head, shoulder and back Tuesday morning, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

The girl was stabbed four times with an 8-inch kitchen knife by her mom, Ann Carimbocas, 44, inside 144-67 176th St. just after 10:30 a.m., fire and police officials said.

"The child is in very serious condition, critical condition," Kelly said.

An unidentified man in the house intervened to stop the attack, called 911 and pinned the woman down until authorities showed up, Kelly said.

"He actually holds the woman until the police arrive," he said.

The man — who the house's landlord said was a member of the U.S. Army — suffered a stab wound to his leg, Kelly added.

"He is slightly injured," Kelly said. "He's cut on the leg with a knife."

The little girl was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, Kelly said.

Neighbor Lindsay Fortune, 35, saw paramedics rush into the house to help the girl.

"One officer...came out and shouted, 'Everybody hurry up! It's a baby girl!'" Fortune said.

Cops later walked Carimbocas, who lives in Selden in Suffolk County, Long Island, out of the house in handcuffs, Fortune said.

Carimbocas was arrested and was being interviewed at the 105th Precinct station house. A source said the woman appeared disoriented and "not very coherent."

Charges against her were pending, police said.

The mother and daughter were apparently visiting for Memorial Day weekend, landlord Ernst Etnetienne said.
