Burnt: Victoria de la Fuente, 46, suffered severe second- and third-degree burns to more than half of her body after being doused in gasoline
A mother has been left fighting for her life with horrific burns after being set on fire by her room mate who sat and watched as she was almost burned to death.
Victoria de la Fuente, 46, suffered severe second- and third-degree burns to more than half of her body after being doused in gasoline.
Police said her alleged attacker Chasety Reynolds,32, stood back and watched as de la Fuente writhed in agony as she was engulfed in flames.
She is alleged to have poured gas over her friend before setting her alight by flicking a cigarette at her.
Reynolds, who lists her interests on her MySpace page as 'serial killers' and her hero 'Freddy Krueger' was arrested at the scene in Leemore, California.
De la Fuente was saved when two passing motorist noticed smoke and flames coming from a garage and rushed to her aid.
They were able to smother in a blanket and put out the fire.
Police investigating the attempted murder said they had never come across such a horrific crime.
'I've worked here for 15 years and I have never seen a case as disturbing as this,' Lemoore Police Cmdr. Steve Rossi said.
'I've seen people who've been shot and lived and people who've been stabbed and lived.
'None of them can compare to the injuries that victim sustained.'
Rossi said Reynolds stood back and watched as her friend burned.
Investigators do not yet have a motive for the attack but said the pair had been arguing prior to the gas dousing.

Friends said de la Fuente allowed Reynolds to stay at her home when she had nowhere else to go. The two women had only known each other for a few months.
According to their MySpace page Reynolds, who is studying law enforcement at West Hills College, has two children aged nine and 12.
She describes herself on MySpace as a fan of 'tattoos and piercings, cool cars, dogs, reptiles and serial killers' and lists her heroes as 'Anna Nicole Smith, my gramma and Freddy Krueger.'
Her daughter, Destiny Ybarra, said she appears stable at this point and should pull through.
Ybarra was at a loss to explain why her mother was attacked.
'I have no answers at this point,' she said. 'Just questions of my own.'
Reynolds has been charged with attempted murder and is being held on $550,000
