Justice Brian Cuttle of St. Vincent & the Grenadines is Dominica’s new resident High Court Judge.
Cuttle, who replaces Davidson Baptiste, took office from Tuesday September 01 2009.
Dominica's Minister for Legal Affairs Ian Douglas said Cuttle is no stranger to the jurisdiction.
“I have left private practice now for about four or five years now, and I practiced before Justice Cuttle, when he sat here as a master doing pre-trial reviews,” Douglas noted.
He said a second judge is also expected, in an effort to address the backlog of cases in court.
“Persons have been a bit uneasy about the backlog of cases and the length of time matters take before they come up and the lengths of adjournments, especially the DAIC and the private sector have been always concerned about the amount of time it takes for them to settle judgments and go after persons who are indebted to them... so we have brought in a second judge,” Douglas stated
