Members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) rescued a 22-year-old woman yesterday, after she was reportedly kidnapped and tortured by a man. The incident happened in Caroni. Kizzy Allick, originally of Morvant, remained in a serious condition at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex last night, suffering from first degree burns about the head, face, chest and other parts of her body.
She had been beaten with the butt of a gun, shot in one of her thighs while her face, chest and other parts of the body were badly burnt. She also lost two of her teeth. Police have detained a man and a woman for questioning. They said the man had been released from prison two weeks ago.
The two were held after officers intercepted a car and reportedly found Allick wrapped in a bed sheet, lying on the back passenger seat of the vehicle. The suspects had just left a house at Riverside Extension, Kelly Village, Caroni. Officers assigned to the Caroni, Chaguanas and Central Police Station in Port-of-Spain have been criticised by the victim’s relatives who claimed that those officers failed to act on their report. Relatives said they were turned away from all three stations when they attempted to report Allick’s abduction.
The victim’s mother Lucy Campbell said: “We went to the Caroni Police Station, they not doing nothing, Chaguanas the same thing, and we came to the Central Police Station (St Vincent Street), they told us they not getting involve in Caroni business, and we can’t come down here and report Caroni police to them.” Campbell she was satisfied with the response received when she reported the incident to the AKU.
