Anguilla’s Chief Minister prepares for series of meetings in Barbados next week

Hubert Hughes Hubert Hughes, Anguilla’s new political leader, travels to Barbados towards the middle of next week to attend the 11th annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development (STC-11).to be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, St Michael.

Hughes said here Friday  that during the regional event which runs from May 9-12 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in St Michael, Barbados, he will also use the opportunity to hold talks with officials with from the European Union (EU), Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Prime Minister of Barbados David Thompson.

The theme for the Bridgetown conference is “Keeping the Right Balance:Creating Opportunities through a World Class Sustainable Tourism Product.”

In his recent budget address Hughes announced that considerable pressure has been placed on already scarce financial resources and that it was necessary to reduce the debt burden by seeking more competitive terms while at the same time controlling certain financial risk, such as rollover risk.
