Golding stays put

Caribbean 360

image Prime Minister Bruce Golding isn’t going anywhere. He believes that resigning is the “right thing to do”, according to Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) officials, but the party his offer to step aside has been rejected.

The revelations were made by JLP General Secretary Karl Samuda and Chairman Dr Ken Baugh at a press conference yesterday, during a break in a JLP Central Executive meeting at Sandals Grande in Ocho Rios.

That meeting was one of several held over the weekend as Golding met with party officials to determine his political future, following the fallout that originated from the request by the United States for the extradition of one of his constituents, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, to face drug and gun charges.

As Golding stayed in the meeting room, Dr Baugh relayed that the Prime Minister had offered to go because it was “the right thing to do” in the circumstances.

The Prime Minister is expected to address the nation himself tonight.
