The US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Dr. Arturo Valenzuela is to pay a two day visit to Jamaica next week Tuesda,July 27.
During his visit, Valenzuela will meet with Prime Minister Bruce Golding and other Government officials.
He is also scheduled to meet with youth advocates, social and community-based activists, as well as leaders in the academic and business communities.
Valenzuela's visit forms part of a three-country Caribbean tour which includes the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago.
Valenzuela was nominated by US President Barack Obama as Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs in May 2009. His other significant assignments include his 1992 appointment as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Inter-American affairs in the US Department of State by the then President Bill Clinton.
He was also Professor of Government and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
