West Indies Captain Chris Gayle to return to tour of Australia

The West Indies Cricket Board announced on Sunday that Captain Chris Gayle will be rejoining the team unit for the upcoming three-match Test Series against Australia in Australia. He will depart from Kingston, Jamaica on Monday.

Gayle left the tour last Wednesday to be with his mother, who was hospitalised in Jamaica. He is expected back in time for the start of the first Test, which bowls off on Thursday at 10 am (8 pm on Wednesday Eastern Caribbean Time/7 pm Jamaica Time) at the Gabba in Brisbane.

“I want to thank my teammates and the team management for the support they gave me and I also want to thank the West Indies Players Association, the West Indies Cricket Board and all the fans for their prayers and best wishes,” Gayle said.

“I am really happy that my mom is back home and is able to move around and in good spitits. I now want to focus on handling business in Australia and fulfilling my olbligations to the team.”

The second Test will be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on December 4-8; and the third Test will be played at the WACA Ground in Perth on December 16-20. The two teams will be competing for the Frank Worrell Trophy.

Tour schedule

November 18-21: vs Queensland at Allan Border Field, Queensland
November 26-30: 1st Test at the Gabba, Brisbane
December 4-8: 2nd Test at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
December 16-20: 3rd Test at WACA Ground, Perth
