BARBADOS: Workshop to examine gender enrolment and performance at Caribbean schools

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – A two-day regional workshop examining the factors influencing gender differentials in enrolment and performance at the secondary and tertiary levels in the Caribbean gets underway here on Monday.

The workshop is being organised by the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) which said that the “overall objective of the project is to engender better informed public policy in addressing current issues relating to gender and educational attainment”.

More than 70 delegates are expected to attend the “Gender Differentials in Caribbean Education” workshop

The CDB said that the delegates will include senior officials from the Ministries of Education and other social sector ministries, and representatives from the school community, the University of the West Indies (UWI) and other tertiary level institutions, industry and commerce, regional agencies and development partners.

Barbados’ Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, will deliver the feature address at the workshop that will also be addressed by the CDB’s Vice-President (Operations) Desmond Brunton and the Deputy Principal of the Cave Hill Campus of UWI, Professor Eudine Barriteau.
